Wiring Harness for Gibson USA Les Paul • 1960 Vintage Drifted Black Beauties
We build this model with drifted 1960 Black Beauties. The Black Beauty is essentially the same capacitor as a late-50s mylar Bumblebee. In 1960, Sprague changed the striped pattern used to mark the value of the caps to a more straight-forward design using red ink to print the specs on the shell. These capacitors are a great way to get authentic vintage tone for about the same price as other harnesses with reissue caps. For more information on our vintage drifted capacitors, read the blog post here.
An optional Woman Tone mod is available on all of our harnesses for Gibson USA guitars at no additional cost.* Woman Tone refers to the smooth, dark sound associated with Clapton's lead tone in the late 60s. We install a lower value cap (.01 range) in the neck position. By selecting the neck pickup and rolling the tone knob all the way off, you can quickly dial in with this harness. Please make your selection from the menu at the top of this description.
We use the finest long-shaft CTS pots with 30% vintage-taper volumes and 20% tones for the smoothest rolloff on each pot. Tolerance is less than 10% all the way around.
Priced as a full set which includes everything you need to completely rewire your guitar: two vintage capacitors, four CTS pots, a Switchcraft nickel toggle switch with pre-measured vintage braided wire, shrink tubing, and jack, pre-wired and ready to install. Please note that our caps are selected based on what they read now, not their original readings, so the values marked on the caps will vary.
* Harnesses with Black Beauty capacitors may have yellow print on the neck cap when the Woman Tone option is selected.
Wiring diagram included. Made in USA.
