Something brand new for your Strat: Gibson 50s wiring!
Premier Guitar describes it this way:
There’s nothing too out of the ordinary about this wiring; it simply connects the tone pot to the output of the volume pot instead of the input. All the late-fifties Gibson guitars were wired this way. So what’s the big deal, you ask? The ‘50s wiring will have two major effects on your tone:
First, the overall tone gets stronger and more transparent. It’s difficult to describe, but perhaps saying it’s more “in your face” would be a good way to describe it. Second, the typical treble loss that occurs when rolling back the volume is much less, and both the volume and tone controls react more smoothly and more evenly, without the typical hot spots. As a side effect, it’s easier to clean up an overdriven amp by simply rolling back the volume on your guitar a bit. We build these with CTS' top-shelf 250k pots with brass posts and shafts. The capacitor is one of our vintage drifted Bumblebees from the 50s. That's right, this is an authentic vintage Bee, not a reissue. The result is totally responsive, creamy volume and tone controls that you can't keep your hands off of. An Oak 5-way switch and Switchcraft jack brings it all together. Read more about vintage drifted caps in our blog post by clicking here. We choose Bees rated from .05 to .1 for these harnesses because they sound amazing in this range with single coil pickups. We've also wired it so that all three pickups have a tone control. Typical Strat wiring bypasses the tone for the bridge pickup.
CreamTone harnesses are built on music! We've repurposed dozens of old albums that were no longer playable and headed for the dumpster by turning them into mounting plates for our harnesses.
- Most Stratocaster pickguards are lined with thin adhesive aluminum in the harness area which serves as a grounding shield. If your controls are mounted on a non-metal surface, we offer an optional grounding shield cut in our shop from .025 aluminum. Please select from the menu at the top of this description.
