Tailpiece • Absolute Vintage • Aged Nickel Lightweight Aluminum for Vintage, Historic or USA Gibson • LIX Patina
LIX is the Roman numeral for 59. Even though this tailpiece is brand new, it has the look of a well-worn piece from that era.
The tailpiece is made from featherweight aluminum, plated in nickel with no copper underplate. Other manufacturers use a copper underplate because the copper fills in the tiny imperfections in the aluminum and creates a bonding layer for the nickel plate on top which cuts costs. Without the copper, the metal must be polished to remove any imperfections and the nickel plate must be applied very carefully. It's much more labor intensive, but it's the way Gibson did it in the 50s, so we've decided it's worth the extra effort to make our parts as vintage correct as possible. Over the years, most of the nickel wears off from use. The old Bursts have dark spots where this has happened. If you have an older Historic Reissue and have noticed some of the hardware is turning pink, that's the copper showing through as the nickel wears away. We've also rolled the edges of the tailpiece and it simply looks amazing!
The studs are made of steel. Please select long or short studs from the menu above this description. Short studs fit Gibson USA guitars and Historics made before 2013. Long studs fit vintage guitars and Historics made from 2013–present.
